and Other Love Poems

Jose Antonio Cangco

Today, I'll go home to see,
What has changed and did not change,
If simple things of beauty
Have been lost or just turned strange;

Each time I saw a songbird,
You'd raise your hands in greeting,
Saying if 'twas a lovebird,
It would dance and it would sing;

When I pointed out a horse,
And other forms in the sky,
You said that clouds are no force
Against the winds and mountains high;

Nevertheless, I love you,
The reason I'll go back there,
For love is just like the view,
And I am the beholder.
